While finding a niche isn’t always an easy mission for artists and entrepreneurs alike, Jason “J Rap Brown” Brown has clearly found his. As a poet, blogger and revolutionary, he routinely embarks on topics concerning black empowerment in his writings and lectures. J Rap Brown draws inspiration from personal life experience as a black man in America, time served in the US Army and his travels around the world.
Born and raised in Toledo, OH, J Rap enlisted in the US Army at the age of 20. While serving, he was coined with the name “J Rap Brown” by one of his comrades for two reasons, 1. J Rap Brown is a play on his name, Jason Brown and 2. His unrelenting, “no holds barred” approach to issues concerning the black experience in America reminded his comrade of 1960’s civil rights activist, H Rap Brown. Much like, H Rap Brown, without question, J Rap Brown’s focus is on restoring black people to greatness through written and verbal expression.
J Rap Brown’s unambiguous account of the black experience and compelling support of the black family has gained him a large social media following and has lead many posts to “go viral”. When performing as a spoken word artist, his even yet confident style of speaking commands audiences and his fearless approach to topics that can easily be considered taboo, garners him much praise.
J Rap Brown will release his debut spoken word CD titled “Nu Word Order” early fall 2017.
